Great Independence Hall · University of Ibadan · Since 1961

Indy shaped us.
Now let’s shape Indy.

Once a Katangite, always one.

Independence Hall has shaped students since 1961. We are renovating Block D. Now Katangites, past and present, are coming home to restore the rest of the hall, one block at a time.

The work ahead

The work ahead of us.

  1. 01

    All the blocks

Repeat the Block D renovation in all the blocks, using what we learned.

    Needs funding
  2. 02

    Water and power

A reliable water supply and backup power.

    Needs funding
  3. 03

    A maintenance fund

Money set aside for maintenance, so what is fixed stays fixed.

    Needs funding

The goal

Every block restored, and kept that way.

Our sustainability plan

Restored today. Cared for tomorrow.

  • Indy Snap

Photograph a fault, add its location and follow progress on the repair board.

  • Experienced artisans

We plan to employ experienced artisans to maintain the hall’s assets. They will also train students in practical maintenance skills, so the knowledge stays within the hall.

  • Hearts & Minds

Our planned Hearts & Minds campaign will encourage students to take ownership of the hall and care for its shared spaces. The aim is to make that care a shared, lasting responsibility.
